A.E. „Dusty“ Durrant

South African Railways class 15CA 4-8-2 locomotive No. 2822 heads a passenger train at Opblaas on the Pretoria to Pietersburg line – 2nd November 1968. Classes 15CA and 15CB brought American practice to the SAR - large engines with bar frames that offered a major increase in power for mainline, mixed traffic duties. Introduced in 1925, from ALCO - and later Baldwin, they would be delivered by four different suppliers. SAR No. 2822 had been built by the North British Locomotive Company under Queens Park, Glasgow - works number 23785/1928.
