Whilst a pair of South African Railways 23-class 4-8-2 locomotives pass by with a heavy mixed freight on the outskirts of Bloemfontein, an attempted rescue of a bogged-down vehicle is taking place on the parallel dirt road, following exceptional rainfall - 8th December 1968. Leading SAR No. 3307 had been built by Berliner Maschinenbau / Schwartzkopff under works number 11006/1938, whilst No. 3203 had been supplied by Henschel & Sohn under works number 24157/1938.
