A.E. „Dusty“ Durrant

In the heat of the Northern Transvaal bushveld, a pair of South African Railways class 15CA 4-8-2s heads a lengthy train of vans at Opblaas near Potgietersrus, on the Pretoria - Pietersburg line - 22nd September 1968. Nos. 2827 and 2838 had been built by the North British Locomotive Company under Queens Park works numbers 23790 and 23801/1928 respectively. This important mixed-traffic class had been sourced initially from the United States - from ALCO and later Baldwin - for express duties on the Cape mainline, with further orders being met by NBL, Glasgow and Breda, Milan.
