A.E. „Dusty“ Durrant
South African Railways 15CA 4-8-2 No. 2831 powers a freight train on the Pretoria - Pietersburg line at Lunsklip near Potgietersrus, Northern Transvaal - 3rd November 1968. It had been built at the Queens Park Works of the North British Locomotive Company, Glasgow - under works number 23794/1928. Locomotives of classes 15CA/15CB brought American practice to the SAR - large engines with bar frames, that offered a major increase in power for mainline, mixed traffic duties. First introduced in 1925, they were delivered by four different suppliers.
