SAR South African Railways
A pair of South African Railways class 15CA mixed-traffic 4-8-2s power a heavy mixed freight at Lunsklip on the Pretoria - Pietersburg route, Northern Transvaal - 21st September 1968. Both built by the North British Locomotive Company, No. 2813 under Queens Park, Glasgow works number 23776/1928 pilots No. 2849 Atlas works 24017/1930. Locomotives of classes 15CA and 15CB brought contemporary American practice to the SAR - large engines with bar frames that offered a major increase in power for mainline, mixed traffic duties. First introduced in 1925, theywere delivered by four different suppliers.
