SAR South African Railways
Two veteran CGR types pair up to head a pick-up freight on the Bethlehem-Frankfort line at Haaks OFS - 27th September 1969. South African Railways class 6J 4-6-0 No. 641 CGR No. 291 built by Neilson Reid 6093/1901 leads class 8A 4-8-0 No. 1104. Based on the existing CGR 8th design, it had also been built by Neilson Reid under works number 6188/1902 to the order of the Imperial Military Railways for mixed traffic duties in the Transvaal. It was first numbered 413 and classified 8L-1 by both the IMR and CSAR until absorbed into the SAR fleet following the unification of railways in 1910.
